Prior to the commencement of any excavation, approval for the verified existing ground levels should be obtained.
-
Trial holes and necessary coordination from all services authorities must be completed and approval obtained before any works are started.
-
Material classification must be determined in order to separate the suitable and the unsuitable as per Q.C.S. section 6 parts 3.3.3.
-
Should any material conforming to Q.C.S section 6 part 3.5.3 be encountered (Rock), Existing excavation levels will be determined for volume computation.
-
These operations will be followed until the designed level and width is attained.
-
Accumulated excavated materials will be deposited as directed by the client.
-
Through these operations safety precautions and control will be strictly implemented.
TYPICAL CONSTRUCTION METHOD STATEMENTS
EXCAVATION
-
Horizontal and vertical alignment in accordance to the project design and specifications must be complied with, prior to any backfilling works to commence.
-
Trial holes and services coordination’s will be complied with, prior to any works to start.
-
For the existing grounds encountered, all the requirements of Q.C.S. section 6 part 3.6.1 will be implemented on site.
-
All materials to be used must be in compliance to the project specifications.
-
Equipments to be used must be in compliance to Q.C.S section 6 part 3.4.4, 3.4.6, 3.4.7 & 3.4.8.
-
Materials are to be pre-mixed in order to minimize equipment volume on site and safety hazards.
-
Testing for each completed layer should comply to the project specifications.
-
No any succeeding layer will be laid without obtaining the necessary approval for the previous layer and this will be continuously adhered until the design level for the backfilling is attained.
-
During this operation, full attention regarding safety precautions and control will be considered and complied with.
Backfilling
Drainage
-
Prior to any drainage activities, approval for the setting out and design level must be obtained.
-
Trial holes and necessary coordination from all services authorities must be completed and approval from the client.
-
All materials to be used must conform to the project specifications with the necessary approval from the client.
-
Excavation operations must conform to Q.C.S section 6 part 3.5.5.
-
Pipe works will be in accordance with Q.C.S section 6 part 14.2 & 14.3
-
Road gullies will be installed as per the project specifications and materials standards and as per Q.C.S section 6 part 14.4 & 14.5
-
Soakaway construction and materials will be in accordance with Q.C.S section 6 part 14.6 & 14.7
-
In the span of these operations safety is the primary concern thus ensuring that all precautions and control is implemented.

The site will be cleared of all debris upon completion of the works.
SUB-BASE ( Class “A” or “B” Laying)
-
Site clean up The area to receive class “B” Sub Base should be free from loose and unsuitable materials. No Sub -Base should be laid unless the underlying area had been tested to the compaction, as per QCS section 6 part 3 specification:

Material Material Sub –Base to be laid should be of material conforming to all relevant test as per QCS section 6 part 4.1 & 4.2
-
Any material that fails to meet the requirements will be immediately removed from site
-
Laying Safety must be implemented prior to commencement of any works.
-
Equipment Laying machine as approved by the client to be either paving machine or road grader as per QCS section 6 part 4.3
-
Mixing Stockpile mixing of materials will be done by road shovel & water tanker ensuring the designated gradation and moisture content is conforming to QCS Section 6 Part 4.4 and 4.5
-
Spreading and Compaction Thickness of each layer must conform with QCS section 6 part 4.6 Item 10 Prior to any laying, the sub-grade layer to receive the sub-base should have proper approval in accordance with QCS section 3.Spreading and compaction will be done with the approved equipment. Operations during the spreading and compaction is in compliance with the requirements of QCS section 6 part 4.6.

Protection of Sub-base Completed surface will be protected and secured in compliance with QCS section 6 part 4.8 Item 1 to 4.

Testing ,Testing of the completed sub-base will be in compliance with QCS section 6 part 4.9 Item 1 to 4.

Repairing Any area of sub-base that does not comply with the project specification will be reworded and retested to check for compliance. Corrective actions to be done will be conforming to QCS section 6 part 4.7 Item 1 to 6.

PRIME COAT (MC – 1) SPRAYING
-
Prior to this activity, all necessary approvals must be obtained for the area to be sprayed conforming to Q.C.S section 6 part 4.
-
Materials to be used should have prior approval as per Project Standards and Specification sand conforming to Q.C.S section 6 part 5.12.4 .
-
Equipment to be used must conform with Q.C.S section 6 part 5.12.3
-
Surface preparation should be in accordance with the project standards and specifications conforming to QCS section 6 part 5.12.4
-
All adjacent and enclosed surfaces must be protected to avoid any splatter of the material (MC-1)
-
Application method and application rate must be in accordance to the project standards and Specifications conforming to QCS section 6 part 5.12.2 and part 5.12.5
-
Protection and maintenance of the sprayed area must conform with the project Standards and Specifications and in accordance with QCS section 6 part 5.12.6 prior to the application of any asphalt layer.
Kerbstone Laying
-
Prior to any works to be done, material approval must be obtained in compliance with Q.C.S. section 6 part 8.2.2.
-
Safety must be implemented prior to commencement of any activity.
-
Kerb foundation will be laid only on approved base, and with approved materials conforming to Q.C.S section 5 part 1.2.1.
-
Laying of kerbstones hould conform with the project standards and specifications in compliance with Q.C.S. section 6 part 8.2.3.
-
After all the works are completed, site will be cleared of any debris or waste materials.
ASPHALT LAYING
( for BC Type 1 or IC Type 1 Gabbro)
-
Prior to the acceptance of the areas that will be receiving any asphalt layer, it will be thoroughly inspected for any defect or irregularity which will therefore be repaired or removed before any MC-1 is sprayed. All of the specifications in the QCS section 6 part-4 must be fully conformed with.
-
For the spraying of prime coat, our method statement is also enclosed.
-
Safety must be implemented prior to commencement of any asphalt laying activity.
-
Necessary protection for any existing structures(walls, kerbing, manhole covers, gullies etc.) will be to the utmost care so as not to disturbed or damage any other surfaces other than those to be asphalted.
-
All necessary approval for all the materials to be used will be forwarded for any other queries with respect to the quality of the materials. in conformity to QCS section 6 part 5.2, 5.7, 5.12 and 5.13.
-
All necessary equipments and plant to be mobilized or used for the works will conform to QCS section 6 part 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6. The list of our paving, laying and finishing equipment are attached with their corresponding specification for your approval and/or comments.
-
Production of materials will conform to QCS section 6 part 5.8.
-
Equipments and plants to be used will be in compliance with QCS section 6 part 5.4, 5.5, and 5.6.
-
Delivery spreading & finishing of the Asphalt materials will be in full compliance with QCS section 6 part 5.9. In addition as follows:
-
All asphalt works will be done by a very experienced crew with a minimum of 10 years laying experience. Through our Asphalt Plant with an average producing capacity of 800 to 1,000 tons of asphalt per day, daily programmed quantity will be laid daily.
-
All measures will be taken to protect the mix from the weather during transit, hauling vehicles will deliver the mixture to the pavers for spreading.
-
Immediately after spreading the asphalt mix to the specified thickness, surface will be checked and any irregularities will be rectified immediately by the experienced gang.
-
Rolling of the laid mix will start immediately using the steel wheeled rollers. The steel wheeled rollers will be kept properly moistened.
-
The rolling will begin on the low side and progress to the high side and the over lapping of each trip will be at least one half the width of rollers with a slow speed of 4-5 km/hr. for steel rollers and 8 km/hr. for Pneumatic tire rollers. No sudden changing on the direction on line of rolling.
-
The longitudinal joints will be rolled directly behind the paving operation.

In any layer of asphalt that will be done in additional to any existing surfaces and or any existing asphalt works. All joints will be prepared in accordance to the project specifications ensuring the quality of the completed works, i.e. all joints will be straight cut with, all contact surfaces will be trimmed to a vertical cut and painted with bitumen emulsion to ensure the find with all the areas affected while ensuring that other surfaces are protected from any damage and cleared on any unsuitable materials

Any material that is unacceptable with the requirements will be removed from site immediately.

All sampling and testing that been required will be removed from site immediately. To be send to approved independent laboratory.

BLOCK PAVING LAYING

Prior to any works to be done, material approval must be obtained in compliance with Q.C.S section 6 part 8.3.2.

Safety must be implemented prior to commencement of any activity.

Laying of block paving must conform with the project specification and in compliance with Q.C.S section 6 part 8.3.3 and part 8.3.4.
-
Trimming and cutting of block paving must conform with the project standards and specifications in compliance with Q.C.S section 6 part 8.3.5.
-
Joint filling and compaction must conform with the project standards and specifications in compliance with section 6 part 8.3.6
-
After all the works are completed, site will be cleared of any debris or waste materials.
TACK COAT SPRAYING

Prior to this activity, all necessary approvals must be obtained for the area to be sprayed conforming to Q.C.S. section 6 part 5.11.

Materials to be used should have prior approval as per project standards and specification sand conforming to Q.C.S section 6 part 5.13.1 and part 5.13.2

Equipment to be used must conform to Q.C.S section 6 part 5.13.3

Surface preparation should be in accordance with the project standards and specifications conforming to Q.C.S section 6 part 5.13.3

All adjacent and enclosed surfaces must be protected to avoid any splatter of the material (Tack Coat)

Application method and application rate must be in accordance to the project standards and specifications conforming to Q.C.S section 6 part 5.13.5.
